Anthea Dendy

Hi. I’m Anthea and I am a Clinical Physiotherapy Specialist in Neurology.

I qualified in 1985 and have worked in neurology since 1987. My NHS experience includes working at the Atkinson Morley Hospital, a Regional Neurosurgical and Neurorehabilitation Unit, and St. George’s Hospital Tooting, a large South London teaching hospital. From 2003 I worked in a specialist neurorehabilitation team in the community, within Surrey Downs Health and Care, based in Epsom. I was the lead clinician in neurophysiotherapy and a member of the Neurorehabilitation Pathways Team.

In addition to my NHS role, from which I retired in October 2023, I have worked in private practice for many years, offering home visits for people with movement, balance & functional difficulties as a result of nervous system damage due to injury or disease.

I have extensive experience with a wide range of neurological conditions including stroke, head injury, MS, PD, MND, Myasthenia Gravis, Guillian Barre, Transversus Myelitis, Spinal Cord Injury, Familial Spastic Paraparesis and Facial palsy. I have a special interest in working with adults with cerebral palsy and cervical dystonia.

In addition to completing an MSc in Neurorehabilitation at St George’s Hospital Medical School/University of London in 2009 I completed a MSc physiotherapy injector course at Coventry University in 2015. I have also previously worked on a sessional basis as a physiotherapy injector with Botulinum Toxin for the Spasticity Management clinic at Woking Community Hospital, alongside a Rehabilitation Consultant.

Throughout my career I have regularly attended a large number and wide range of courses to remain up to date with the current evidence in neurorehabilitation. This has included regular participation at ACPIN National conferences and study days, CSP Congress, Basic and Advanced Bobath courses, Functional Electrical Stimulation and clinical updates. In 2023 I completed the Neuro Fit course.

I am a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), registered with the Health Care Professional Council (HCPC), and a member of the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists interested in Neurology (ACPIN)

My Approach

I follow a holistic model of neuro-rehabilitation which takes into consideration the relationships between the person and their environment and the psychological, social, cognitive and physical impact of their injury or disease.

My approach is based on current evidence, is goal orientated and problem solving. My priority is to understand each individual’s expectations of physiotherapy and plan treatment together to meet their needs.
